Saturday, July 30, Harvest Distribution - 7 locations!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, July 29, 2011

Main Harvest Hub: Holladay A Garden -  5 - 5:30 pm

2836 E Casto Lane (5060 So.)

Main Harvest Hub: Taylorsville Garden-  6 - 6:30 pm

 6255 So. 1300 W. (in the church parking lot on 1300 W.)

A Runner will be needed for the following locations:

3300 So., South Jordan, Riverton, West Jordan A, and West Valley B Gardens

Those who would like some harvest but would like to stay in these gardens are asked to come a little early.  Pick any crops that may need to be harvested.

If there is more than one garden member who shows up at your garden, designate a runner, who would be willing to bring the harvest  to our main Holladay OR Taylorsville Harvest Hub and deliver it to Sheryl.

In return, a greater assortment of harvest and food will then quickly be re-distributed and prepared for all eagerly awaiting garden members and the runner will quickly get back to their own garden to distribute the goodies!

Designate someone who can be QUICK!  No stops should be made along the way - to or from.

Notice the Taylorsville and Holladay Harvest times above.  The runner needs to arrive at the beginning of the harvest distribution.

While garden members are waiting for food to come back, any weeding they could do would be very helpful, productive and GREATLY appreciated!

RSVP IS required to receive a share of the harvest.

Call, email or text Sheryl by 4:30 pm on the day of harvest.

State which garden you will attend.

Those who don't RSVP or come during designated time, will need to wait until next time.

Food & Harvest:

Apricots

Bagels

Artisan Bread

Baked Goods i.e sweets

NOTE:  No sprays/pesticides are used on crops unless stated otherwise

Food and Harvest will vary depending on what is available on that day

If you work in any of the gardens on another day or time and would like a share of the harvest and aren't able to attend in the evenings, email me so I can put you in touch with other members in your area.

Sat., July 30, 9 am:  Picking apricots

Anne Cox is overseeing the apricot picking activity.

Plan to meet at South Jordan B Garden in the back.

After that tree is picked, we'll go to South Jordan A garden.

Marilyn is the homeowner at the A Garden.

We are picking all of the apricots in both trees, however, DON'T TAKE ANY APRICOTS from Marilyn's trees until she  takes what she wants.  She'll give us the rest.

Keep the apricots separate from each property.

What to bring:

Plenty of plastic bags and some buckets.

Everyone who helps with making this a successful event will receive some apricots.  The rest of them will go to the Harvest Hub at Taylorsville or Holladay, on Sat. evening to be distributed with the rest of the harvest.

Tuesday, July 26, Harvesting babies this summer!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Life has been turned upside down the past few days due to my beautiful little grand daughter coming into the world on Tuesday, July 26!  I've been out of town with my family so I'm trying to focus on the garden again!

Trevor, my son, and Summer Jane!

Trevor, Monica and baby.

I'm a very lucky grandmother!  I'm so happy I got to be there right after she was born.  Here she is at approx. 12 hours old.  I doubled my grandchild population from 2 to 4 in just one month this summer!

Even just hours after giving birth, Monica looks beautiful!

Trevor and Summer...

Kim, or we should say "Auntie Kim"

Trevor: A very happy NEW exhausted dad...

Latest update about Apricot Picking on Sat. July 23

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, July 22, 2011

Email me if you want to pick Sat. morning BUT don't go until you hear from me one more time.

The first tree there were more squished ones on the ground than there were in the tree so we were too late for that one.

The 2nd tree I wrote down the address wrong OR this house doesn't exist.  I found the street but can't find the property!

In the midst of all this, I did find another loaded apricot tree and went and rang the doorbell.  They will call me tonight to let me know if we can pick this tree. It's the perfect apricot tree - big beautiful apricots!!

If you have a ladder, let me know so you don't have to come to my place first.   I will update this apricot situation as soon as I know more!

Sat. July 23, Picking Apricots - 2 locations on the East Side

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, July 22, 2011

I won't be able to be there, so someone who has a truck or a car needs to carry at least one ladder.  I have a few ladders but you'll need to come to my home by 8 am Sat. morning OR Friday and load the ladders, buckets and boxes.  If we don't have anyone who will do this, we will need to wait and pick on another time and day so please let me know if you are able to help.

We need everyone to be picking for the group, not just for y-ourself.

8:30 am:

1st stop:

2161 E. 3380 So. (This address is actually our 3300 So. B Garden, the one w/ chickens, but the apricot tree is across the street).  We have received permission to pick this tree so don't worry. We'll start here, quickly pick everything possible, then move to the 2nd property.

2nd stop:

2142 E. Atkin Ave. 2830 So. - It's great that these properties are just about 10 blocks from each other.  We need to stay together and work one property at a time.

When we are done, you can take a bag of apricots for your family but help us get all the extra apricots, buckets, ladders, etc. back to my place.

RSVP for this picking party by emailing me.

We also plan to pick apricots off the ground, even if they are gooey and need to be throw away.

We try to leave the apricot tree area looking clean in exchange for homeowners giving us their fruit.
