Friday, Sept. 30: The Greenhouse NOW has lights!!!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, September 30, 2011
A big huge thanks to Bob Wright, a wonderful electrician, who came on Thursday, Sept. 29 and installed power in the greenhouse.  I'll have everyone come over soon and check it out - at NIGHT!!  We will now be able to work in the  greenhouse in the evenings throughout the entire winter!

Friday, Sept. 30: Besides So. Jordan, you can work in West Jordan A Garden, details....

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, September 30, 2011
If South Jordan is too far away, help us in the WJ A garden (2881 W. 7180 So.).  Go to the VERY back garden, pass the tomato garden and keep going south.  Pull weeds and do whatever you can to make that back garden ready for fall planting.  Don't pick any of the tomatoes in the first garden you see, just weed, if you would.  Thanks so much!!  Let me know how much more there is to do once you leave, so I can pass the info to other garden members.

Thursday, Sept. 29: Plan to work in the gardens and I'll email everyone with details tonight when I get home.

Sheryl McGlochlin - Thursday, September 29, 2011

It's been another crazy busy day today.  I'll be back home around 8:30 pm tonight to answer all my emails coming in from garden members.  If you can work tonight or tomorrow in ANY of the gardens, especially tomorrow so I know where you will be, plan on it.  I'll be home nearly all day tomorrow helping in the gardens.

Who wants lots of Bagels today OR could take them to the homeless shelter?

Sheryl McGlochlin - Thursday, September 29, 2011
I'll be back home after 1 pm today.  If anyone can take these to the Homeless Shelter downtown OR any other needy group in town, I would love your help.  If you want one or more bags for your family, let me know as well.  They are still very delicious!!!

Tuesday, Sept. 27: We need help in these 2 areas ASAP

Sheryl McGlochlin - Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Right now I need help harvesting produce in these 2 gardens:  1)  Tomatoes in WVC A Garden, approx. 3200 So. Bangeter Hwy area.   2)  Yellow Squash in So. Jordan A Garden 11400 So. 2865 W. area.

If you can help me, please let me know ASAP - email, text or call me and leave a message.

Tuesday, Sept. 27: Can anyone help me harvest tomatoes in WVC A Garden today?

Sheryl McGlochlin - Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Friday, Sept. 23: Motherlode of Food - today only!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, September 23, 2011

For today ONLY, Friday, Sept. 23, if you want a lot of GREAT food, come to Holladay because I have SO much food to give away.

Sorry for the very short notice.....

I will make it worth your while to drive to my home.

As always, this is for garden members only.

Be at my home anytime between 4:45 and 5:45 pm.  After that it will be gone.
If you can't make it at this time, ask another garden member to pick up your share.

RSVP if you are coming.

Since it's my birthday on Monday, I'm leaving by 6 pm for a fun birthday weekend with my husband.   I'll make sure ALL of the food is gone by then.

Bring your own containers and bags.  Expect much more than just produce from our gardens.

*If you can not come to Holladay and only Taylorsville, let me know, I will have Anne Cox bring your food between 6 - 6:30 pm.  If you want a lot of food, make sure you come to Holladay.  Let me know soon.  As of 2 pm, Friday, there are 3 people who have RSVP'd for Taylorsville.

I am visiting many of the gardens around the valley today....

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, September 21, 2011

I'll be posting an update on what we need help with in the gardens.

If you would be willing to commit to a day and time, even for the next few weeks, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

I would encourage others to come and work with you.  I'll make sure you know what needs to be done and how to do it, so experience is not necessary!  We'll teach you everything you need to know.  Thanks so much for your help with the fall garden cleanup!!

Harvest continues to come in even though we are starting our fall clean up!

Plan on harvest shares being distributed EVERY Tuesday and Friday until I tell you otherwise!  RSVP if you want a share.

Read "Harvest Distribution" info on my blog for complete details about the harvest each week

Wed. Sept. 21, Garden Members: LOTS of work to do in the gardens this week!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Thursday, Sept. 22, West Jordan A Garden, 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Work with Dan

cleaning up the back garden. Get all the corn stalks and weeds pulled and everything basically cleaned up so we can plant spinach soon for our winter garden. We have 2 gardens in this back yard.  The one we are cleaning right now is the far back garden.  When we have finished harvesting the front garden, we'll do the same.  Email if you can come and haven't found all of the garden addresses on the website.

Sat., Sept. 24:  Pick up bagels at 2 Riches Bagel Stores

- 6200 So. Highland Drive and 8700 So. Highland Drive.  Pick up between 8 - 11:30 am and bring to my home.

Friday, Sept. 23, 5:15 - 6:30 pm  Help with Harvest Pickup

I am doing the Holladay Harvest shares but need someone to drive the Harvest shares to Taylorsville garden members.  Help me load food into your car, leave my Holladay home at 5:30 pm, stay at Taylorsville Garden (church parking lot across from garden) from 6 - 6:30 pm to distribute food to those who have RSVP'd.  It's approx. a 12- minute drive from my home to Tay. Garden

Thursday and Friday:  8 - 10 am: South Jordan A & B Gardens: Work with Camille

She'll be mostly weeding and then harvesting any food that may be available.  All of our gardens need fall clean up and be prepared for 1) winter planting OR 2) tilling in the spring.  Email if you can come and haven't found all of the garden addresses on the website.

Wednesday:  12 noon: Holladay B Garden: Work with Laura Kennedy

She'll be mostly weeding and cleaning up corn stalks, apples, etc.  All of our gardens need fall clean up and be prepared for 1) winter planting OR 2) tilling in the spring.  Email if you can come and haven't found all of the garden addresses on the website.

Save your falling leaves!

Now is the time to think about preparing FREE nutrients to your garden this winter!  Some of our gardens won't have winter crops growing in them so we'll apply this treatment ONLY to certain gardens.

Save your leaves,  bag them up, then check with me first.  Once the garden is cleaned up and will NOT have fall plants growing in them, you can sprinkle your leaves all over the garden, then the decomposed leaves will be tilled  into the soil in the spring, adding lots of nutrients and mulch into the soil for next year's garden.

NOTE:  Do NOT add any leaves in any of our gardens without checking with me first.

Wednesday, Sept. 21: NEW "Test" harvest pick up today only....

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, September 21, 2011

I'm testing out a new harvest pickup today, since I still have plenty of food

If you would like some of this food today, please do the following:

  • Call, email or text me and tell me you are coming.
  • You don't need to wait for a confirmation
  • If you would like a confirmation from me before coming, let me know.
  • Find the coolers, by the driveway, front of my home
  • Take some food but leave some for others (i.e. 3 - 4 cucumbers, 2 squash, etc.)
  • I will check the coolers and replenish it as needed.
  • The only food available is what is in the coolers.
  • Don't take my coolers.
  • Bring your own bags
  • Don't ring the doorbell since I may not be home or I'm trying to work.
  • Before leaving, sign the clipboard that is in or near the coolers, so I know who has been here.
  • I will keep doing this as long as I have extra food.
  • This does not replace the regular Tuesday and Friday harvest pickups.
  • If you feel you didn't get enough of these items during the regular harvest pick up, you can come and get a few more.

Extra Food I currently have:

Cucumbers

Yellow squash

Pears

Bagels
