Lots of tomatoes!

Help us with harvesting lots of delicious food this week!

Sheryl McGlochlin - Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Thanks for your patience.  I'm back from Florida now.  Just in time to start harvesting a lot of food!

I have updated the GARDEN CALENDAR for the next several weeks.

Take a minute to click on the link above and look at it.  Let me know when you would like to come help us in the gardens and pick up some food.  You'll love this delicious harvest that is ripening quickly!

Remember, we need your help with harvesting this food and/or some light garden maintenance.

If you are also interested in doing a "bagel pickup" from Riches Bagels during the week, let me know. Flexible schedule for picking up the food.  It then needs to come to my home in Holladay, after you have taken what you would like.

Riches Stores located at:

Thursday, Aug. 2: Harvest Distribution in Holladay

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, August 01, 2012
We still need your help in the gardens - lots of harvesting and weeding to do nearly every day.
In the meantime, if you have helped us this year in any of the gardens and haven't picked up food yet, please come and get some!

Email, text or call me before coming to pick some up, anytime Thursday, Aug. 2nd, Holladay A Garden,, preferably in the morning, before 9 am when it's still cooler outside but anytime if fine if that doesn't work.

There is a nice assortment of produce right now so please let me know if you want some.

Don't go until you hear a confirmation from me, just to make sure there's still plenty left.

Look for the clip board next to the produce.  Sign in.  Bring your own bags.

Don't ring the door bell or anything, just sign in, take some food, and leave.

Right now there is no garden work at the Holladay A Garden.

We do need help in Holladay B Garden, however.

You can come later and help in that garden or any of our WEST side gardens, which are also very demanding right now... especially West Jordan and South Jordan A, B & C Gardens.

A lot of the produce you are eating at my home right now is coming out of our 3 South Jordan Gardens.

Thank you so much for helping us in any of our 14 gardens this year!

It is GREATLY appreciated!

I hope you enjoy this harvest!

Continue to watch this blog and the Garden Calendar to see where we need help the most.

There will be several fruit trees i.e. pear, etc. that need to be picked soon.

About our 3 "So Jo Gardens"...

as we like to call them:  They are the largest of our 14 gardens and are producing a LOT of crops.
I will be doing weekly "So Jo Garden Blitz Parties" since these 3 gardens need a lot of consistent attention this summer.
As we are able to stay in control of these gardens AND get enough people to help us, we'll send a crew over to work in the West Jordan Garden as well.
Let me know if you'd like to work there.

Millcreek (33rd So.) Garden Work and Harvest Distribution:

Feel free to help Dave, our 33rd South Garden Coordinator, and his crew, EVERY Tuesday and Saturday morning from 8 - 10 am.

Do you have a garden you'd like to work in this week?  Email me and let me know!

You can work any daylight hours Monday - Saturday.

PLEASE Do NOT pick any of the watermelons, cantaloupe and winter squash!!

We will let you know when they are ready.

Learn more about WHEN TO PICK MELONS & PUMPKINS

We are growing Melons and Winter Squash in many of our gardens this year.  I'm trying to get a bunch of signs posted to remind everyone to "DON'T PICK THESE CROPS!"

It's very understandable why people pick these crops since this is what they look like in the grocery store, however, "home-grown" vrs "store-bought" MELONS and WINTER SQUASH are very different!
We'll let you know when we are ready to pick these plants, just keep your eyes open and don't let anyone pick any of these until you hear from me.  We are watching these plants very closely.

Who wants plums?

Sheryl McGlochlin - Sunday, July 22, 2012
If you are a member of our garden group and want some delicious plums today, contact me ASAP if you willt come to my home in Holladay to pick them up.

I will be in and out all day so contact me via phone or email before you come. 801-278-5313

Not a garden member yet, no worries! Join now!

June 1: Harvest Available and Distribution

Sheryl McGlochlin - Friday, June 01, 2012

Currently all members who have helped us anytime in anyway during the 2012 Garden Season so far, are invited to pick up some harvest.

How the harvest is distributed:

This will be the pattern for the 2012 season.  If we need to make adjustments, we will.
Each garden has a coordinator.
Generally speaking, you will be receiving harvest out of the garden nearest to you, the one you have been working in for the most part.
There are plenty of exceptions:
Some gardens are "specialty gardens".  Your garden may not be growing the crops grown in other gardens.]
If you have been helping in ANY of our gardens, you are entitled to receive produce from these specialty gardens.

Examples of some of our Specialty Gardens:

Holladay Gardens: these are the only gardens growing peas
South Jordan A and Holladay Gardens grow Lettuce
South Jordan C Garden is growing over 100 watermelons
South Jordan B Garden is growing several cantaloupe

Every Monday morning at 10 am in Holladay, the coordinators meet.
This week, peas and lettuce are available from Holladay.
If you want these 2 items, contact your coordinator OR make arrangements to pick up produce from me, Sheryl, in Holladay.
Your coordinator, if you contact them before Sunday night, will bring you produce.  You can then make arrangements to pick up the food from them.  Make sure they are attending the Monday Meeting first.  They will not bring food back to you if you don't contact them a head of time.

Harvest Distribution tonight: South Jordan A Garden, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Sheryl McGlochlin - Wednesday, May 16, 2012

For garden members who have helped us in any way in the gardens this year I am bringing:

Lettuce

Garlic

So far I know who is coming to work tonight.  They will receive harvest.

If you can come and even help us for a few minutes in the garden and pick up some harvest, that would be awesome.

Let me know so I have plenty for everyone.

Tuesday, May 8: Lettuce & Salad Greens available this week

Sheryl McGlochlin - Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Our Holladay A Garden is full of wonderful, delicious tossed salad makings!  For those who have helped in our gardens so far this year, this is your first REAL treat from the gardens!

If you want some, you'll need to come and pick since this is a harvest that can be time consuming for one person to have to do all the work.  We'll teach you how to pick this crop.
