Just so you know....

We never cancel any of hikes unless there is a major earthquake which hasn't happened yet. We do however, ask for a RSVP on Tuesday and Thursday hikes since our numbers are fewer.

There are a few ways people hear about our outings: Meetup.com, Granite Peaks Comm. Ed., SL School Comm. Ed are just a few of the ways people hear about my outings. Some people get confused when they find us on Meetup.com, for example.

On that site it says I currently have 902 members but in reality I actually have over 2000 members but only 900 of those have found us thru meetup.com.

My Outdoor Adventure Group on Meetup.com says I started this group in April 2, 2010 - approx. 2 years ago, but in reality I started in Feb. 20, 2003.

With summer around the corner and temperatures on the rise, Utah resorts offer a cool assortment of entertaining activities perfect for all ages and energy levels.

ALTA SKI AREA

Alta Ski Area is open to the public all summer long for hiking and biking. Alta Lodge is open daily during the summer season from June through mid-October for meetings, retreats, weddings and lodging. The dining room and deck are open for Sunday Brunch and Saturday lunch. Continental breakfast is included with overnight lodging. Sunday Brunch is accompanied with live jazz, beginning June 3. Chef Paul Raddon, Sous-chef Sam Wolfe and their staff prepare over 40 items from around the globe. Brunch is served from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BEAVER MOUNTAIN

Beaver Mountain is a great summer getaway located in Logan Canyon, en route to the stunning azure waters of nearby Bear Lake. Beaver Mountain rents their ski lodge for visitors, youth groups and family reunions all summer long. Also available through the resort are four-man tents, RV hook-ups and a yurt.

BRIAN HEAD

Brian Head will be open for summer June 23 through September 30. The resort is open Thursday-Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Lifts operate Friday-Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Brian Head's mountain bike park is the central hub for biking in the Brian Head area accessed by the chair lift. The resort has a hiking trail for every experience level. Visitors can ride up the chairlift and take a leisurely hike down, or hike from the bottom to a peak of over 11,000 feet. Additionally, the resort offers an 18-hole disc golf course.

Lastly, The Brian Head Family Adventure is a self guided interpretive and activity course along the Dixie National Forest’s new and incredibly scenic Vista Trail. The three-mile long trail is filled with fun and exciting activities including fossil excavation, panning for gold, cattle roping, pictograph painting and rock hounding.

CANYONS RESORT

The 2012 Canyons summer season features fast-paced and high-flying adventures like Canyons Bike Park and Zip Tour Adventure, serene encounters with nature via an enhanced network of hiking trails. Plus, take a pedal boat on Canyons alpine lake, family favorites like fireworks, concerts, fishing, 18-hole putting course and disc golf, and award-winning culinary magic and "al fresco" dining from the Talisker Restaurant Collection.

Signature summer events commence June 6 with the weekly Farmer's Market at Canyons (Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m.) at the base of the Cabriolet lift. The Summer Concert Series, which in the past has featured headliners from Green Day to Cracker to BoDeans, begins July 14.

DEER VALLEY RESORT

Deer Valley Resort offers a spectacular setting to connect with Mother Nature, experience majestic mountain views, relax from the stress of everyday life and participate in activities ranging from lift-served hiking and mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, deckside dining at Royal Street Café and Deer Valley Grocery~Café, outdoor concerts and more.

Summer operations at the resort run seven days a week from June 15 through Labor Day and continue to be offered September 8 and 9 (conditions permitting). Summer chairlifts operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (conditions permitting).

PARK CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT

Park City Mountain Resort’s summer activities operate daily through October 21 with summer dining options like Crescent Burger, just steps away from the resort’s base area activities, and Legends Bar and Grill in the Resort Plaza. Park City Mountain Resort features several options for mountain thrills for the family. Its four-track alpine slide is one of the longest in the world. The resort’s alpine coaster banks and drops down the mountain at speeds up to 45 mph while two ZipRider lines send guests soaring through the trees 110 feet off the ground. The Flying Eagle Zip Line, in its first full summer of operation, is a two-person ride gliding over the Resort's Main Base Area. Guests can also catch big air on the Legacy Launcher, the resort's bungee-assisted trampolines, or explore a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails accessed from the Town lift, connecting the mountain directly with Park City’s historic Main Street, or PayDay Lift in the resort’s base area.

The Adventure Zone, for kids 36 to 54 inches tall, is made up of the Spider Slide, Climbing Web, Boulders that simulate the rocky terrain of Southern Utah, and the Climbing Wall. Little Miners Park, for the resort’s youngest guests, includes a merry-go-round, airplane ride and mini train.

POWDER MOUNTAIN

Enjoy thrilling Summer Safari 4x4 Adventure Tours at Powder Mountain this summer. Guided tours in oversized off-road vehicles take guests to spectacular sites throughout the resort’s 10,000-plus acres. Tours can be tailored to meet the desires of the individual guests and ever-changing scenery, wildlife and weather. Views include overlooks of Ogden Valley, the Great Salt Lake, Uintah Mountains, Wyoming, Idaho and Nevada. Adventures are open to ages 3 and older: $75 for adults and $35 for children three to 12 years of age.

Additionally this summer, the resort will host the annual Powder Mountain Motocross competition August 17-19.

SNOWBIRD

Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort has an exciting summer calendar jam-packed with activities and entertainment. The resort will host a variety of events, including its annual Brewfest over Father's Day weekend, free concerts every Saturday night as part of the Cool Air Concert series, Snowbird Family Flicks every Friday night, Stargazer astronomy lectures on Hidden Peak, and Oktoberfest in August, September and October. Snowbird will also host the "Queen Stage" of the Tour of Utah in August, and the 34th annual Bicycle Hill Climb and Widowmaker races. The resort is also introducing the Snowbird Adventure Races, a series of four biking, running and obstacle course races.

Snowbird offers 10 summer activities including the Aerial Tram, Alpine Slide, Peruvian Chairlift and Tunnel, New Mountain Flyer, Climbing Wall, Bungee Trampolines, Ropes Course, Air Jumper, Mechanical Bull and Kids' Inflatables.

Snowbird also offers horseback riding in Mineral Basin, fishing in Austin Pond, mountain biking and hiking among the beautiful wildflowers of majestic Little Cottonwood Canyon. Visitors may pick up a picnic lunch at General Gritts, or enjoy excellent dining options all summer long at The Aerie, Lodge Bistro, El Chanate and The Steak Pit. 

SNOWBASIN 

Snowbasin will begin summer operations Father’s Day weekend. Needles Gondola will begin running June 16 open weekends only through early October. Hours of operation are Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food service at Needles Lodge will be limited to snacks and drinks until June 30 when a full lunch menu will be offered. Snowbasin will also host Saturday Night Mountain Top Dining beginning June 30, as well as Sunday Entertainment and BBQs starting Father’s Day.

SOLITUDE

This summer, Solitude Mountain Resort will offer lift served biking, hiking and disc golf Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Friday June 22.

Scenic chairlift rides and uplift for hiking and mountain biking takes place on Solitude's Sunrise triple chair. From there, visitors may explore miles of single track on Diggler Scooters or mountain bikes, or explore some of the most geologically diverse terrain in the state by foot. Solitude's high alpine course also offers 18 holes of disc golf.

On Saturdays and Sundays, brunch and dinner will be served throughout the summer at Kimi's Mountainside Bistro, or follow a guide on a short alpine hike to the Yurt at Solitude where a chef prepares a four-course meal while guests watch the sun set on the Wasatch. For lighter fare, the Stone Haus Pizzeria & Creamery is open Wednesdays through Sundays for lunch or dinner, serving hand crafted pizzas, barbecue, Starbucks Coffee, gourmet Ice Cream, salads, snacks and more.

SUNDANCE

Nestled within thousands of acres of Rocky Mountain wilderness, Sundance offers some of the most spectacular hiking terrain in the West. From the rugged peaks of Mt. Timpanogos to lush waterfalls and deep canyon valleys, the terrain is sure to please all types of hikers. And with an incredible array of wildflowers and wildlife, explorers of all ages will find adventure at every turn. Visitors are free to explore on their own or join a guided hike. Don't miss Sundance's famed Foundry Grill Sunday Brunch, winner of Utah's Best of State award.

Bikers will enjoy the same terrain that makes skiing and snowboarding at Sundance so amazing. Ride the lift up, along with your bike and then experience some remarkable trails. Day passes, twilight passes and season passes are available. Sundance also offers scenic lift rides, including full moon lift rides, horse backing riding and fly fishing.

UTAH OLYMPIC PARK 

Experience the new Adventure Courses at Utah Olympic Park this summer. These unique activities challenge guests to overcome fear, test their limits, and build skills as they weave through an intricate course of ropes and other features. The courses offer guests memorable team-building experiences and may also be rented for private groups. Guests may also take a ride down the Olympic Track in a bobsled, ride the world’s steepest zipline, or take a scenic alpine slide ride along the Olympic ski jumps. Watch the Flying Aces soar up to 60 feet in the air, while flipping and twisting on skis, during the Flying Ace All Star Freestyle Pool Show presented by Montage Deer Valley on Saturday’s at 5 p.m., June 9 – Sept 1.

Utah Olympic Park’s Freestyle Clinics and Private Lessons are perfect for anyone who wants to learn to jump into the freestyle pool on skis and a great family activity.
