Top 11 Ways to Fight a Cold or Flu - My favorites

  1. Strengthen your Immune System.

    This DAILY capsule called "Seasonal Defense" will do wonders for your body! These powerful, all-natural capsules are a must if your immune system is shot.  When I am feeling run down or getting sick, I take 4 capsules 5 times a day or a total of 20 capsules/day.  Generally a regular maintenance program will require 2 capsules, 3 times a day or a total of 6 capsules/day.  I love this product and depend on it especially during the winter months!   2. Increase water consumption.  

    Water helps to flush out toxins in your system. Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis is a very good habit to develop whether or not you are under the weather.
  3. Decrease dairy consumption.

    Cut back on dairy for a little while.  Products like milk, egg nog, cheese, ice cream, etc. will hurt rather than help you get better.  
  4. Decrease sugar consumption.

    It's hard to escape this tip since so many processed foods and popular soda and fruit drinks have an abundance of sugar hidden in them, not to mention the obvious foods like candy, cakes, cookies, and pies. Sugar is especially an enemy to your body when you are sick.
  5. Increase the humidity in the air.

    Dry air can make your life more miserable when you feel sick. If you can't take a quick trip to Florida right away, try these helpful tips: Keep a humidifier close to you during the day and night. I sleep with a humidifier on my night stand, next to my head each night which helps SO much.  I do this all winter long, regardless of how I feel.  Since I work in my kitchen on my computer or preparing meals, I put a large pan of water on the stove and let it boil on low for several hours. If you live In Utah, the air is so dry that it's critical to create your own humid environment especially during the winter months.  
  6. Start Juicing.

    Citrus Juicing - I love my L'Equip Juicer and it really helps me when I'm feeling run down!  A few simple recipes that are my favorite include 1)  Citrus Special (combination of 2 oranges, 1 lemon and 1 grapefruit  2)  Carrot/Orange Special (combination of 1 orange and 4 carrots). Besides being excellent cleansers for your kidneys, blood stream , etc. these fruits and veggies also are rich in nutrients needed to heal the body.  For best results, prepare and drink first thing in the morning, BEFORE eating/drinking anything else. In addition, don't eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes AFTER. This is very delicious as well as great medicine!  Do store this.  Juice and drink immediately.
  7. Gargle w/ Sea Salt

    For a sore throat this helps a lot! Notice "Sea" Salt, which has a lot more nutrients and minerals than table salt.  Salt is an excellent way to heal the body externally. When I was in Maui playing in the ocean, I cut the top of my foot on my friend's stand up paddle surf board when the waves pushed it against my foot on the beach.  Putting my foot in the salty ocean during the next few days taught me a lot about the powers of salt on an open wound. Same is true for a sore throat.
  8. Fast & easy Homemade Chicken Soup.

  9. Get Outside!

    Take a little time each day to get outside and take in some fresh air.  Here in northern Utah, we get socked in with winter inversions often, so I plan a head to take some time often and head for the mountains, high above the inversions.  The weather feels great.  The air is fresh and clean. The sky is blue. The sun is bright and warm.  The combination of all of these will do wonders for your mental, emotional, and physical health. 
  10. Enjoy a soothing hot drink for sore throats.

    1 TBSP Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 Tsp Cayenne Pepper, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 TBSP Honey mixed with 8 oz. of hot water.  These ingredients are all very medicinal. 
  11. Slow down and simplify your life.

    Dump stuff out of your life and go into survival mode if necessary.  Get back to the basics.  This is one of the main reasons you are run down in the first place - burning the candle at both ends, going faster than you have strength, packing too much in to your life, not taking time to rest and recharge your batterie.
